A letter from the Trip Leaders

To our friends and colleagues in STGS:

Regretfully, the leaders of the excursion are forced to cancel the field trip to Big Bend Ranch State Park, scheduled for September 26-30, 2022.  A major element is trip expenses:  Fuel prices and van rental costs have gone through the roof. Another economic consideration is that the current number of registrants precludes meeting our break-even cost.  Compounding that, the latest outbreak of COVID-19 cases makes it unwise to travel long hours in vehicles with multiple people. We were so looking forward to showing you a rare place where the Appalachians, the Rockies, the mid-Tertiary volcanic belt, and the Rio Grande rift have all shaped the landscape, but we must bow to the realities.
